Lessons Learned from my Students

Date: February 7, 2023
Time: 4:00–5:00pm
Facilitator(s): Sue Steiner, Wisconsin Virtual School (WVS) Teacher

Not all learning takes place on the student side of online learning. Having taught online now for over 20 years, there are lessons learned by this online instructor as well. The facilitator will share her experiences passed on to her by her students including different ways to navigate through the course, errors in the course lessons and assessments, the way something is worded and the way the student interprets it. These lessons challenge us to recognize the diversity in learning styles, skill levels, and student backgrounds. We need to evaluate our teaching methods to meet the needs of various groups of learners and stress the importance of learning content over getting a certain grade. We have to be open to learning from our students. We will also discuss our experiences and lessons learned from local mentor coaches and how they interpret information in Genius, such as end dates, and for us to be aware of their local policies.
