A student-centered teacher in an online or blended classroom gives feedback—not in the sense of giving high-stakes tests and grades—but more like a great coach who watches players from the sidelines, studies them at practice, reviews the post-game footage, and then meets with them to talk about the ways that they can improve. The intent of feedback is to improve, not reward or punish, and can take many forms, from one- on-one and small-group check-ins to written notes and emails. “Radically frequent check-ins,” as one high performance organization calls them, are the “killer app” for helping people learn and grow.
